The property

The seven hectares stretch from the road down the hillside to the river valley where two rivers join (rio Colorado and rio Harino), the land undulates and stretches around the hillside providing various spots and vistas for relaxation and contemplation.

– Wildlife: The property is a refuge for wildlife as has young forest surrounded by farmland. There are a multitude of butterflies and birds, as well as the occasional armadillo, monkeys (Geoffrey tamarinds) and deer which come along the river and into the property to eat young shoots.

– Production: This is not a commercial farm but we do grow organic agricultural products including: oranges, lemon, papaya, mango, banana, plantains, pineapple, yucca/cassava & herbs. Depending on the time of year you can pick the fruits directly from the trees and eat all you want. We have several large mature mango trees scattered across the farm and down by the river. Mangos begin to ripen in April. We have one mature orange tree which fruits January to march (every other year) with sweet fruit. The area is reknown for its oranges so during this season you can also buy large bags of fresh local oranges from the local fruit stall. If the yucca is ready you can dig that up too, as it grows in the ground like potatos.

– Micro-climate: The sun comes up every morning right behind the mountain on the opposite side of the valley from the house. So coffee on the terrace with the sunrise. The valley and the aspect of the house optimizes the capture and flow of the breeze. In summer months it can be quite strong in the evening.

– River: The property’s possibly best asset is 1 kilometer of river bordering the property’s northern boundary. Whilst the river is public its limited access means you will have it to yourselves. There is a path from the house direct down to the river. From there you can find pools and mini waterfalls and can walk up or down the river in any direction. It tends to go upto 1 meter or so in depth, with some deeper pools. So you have your own river to explore. You can also walk to the end of the property and arrive at a confluence where our river joins with a larger river where you can swim and catch the sun. Picnics by the confluence of the rivers are particularly nice.
